Don’t let the scale control your day.

So many of us place way too much value on the number staring back at us from the scales.

I know this, because this used to be me.
Getting on the scales used to be the first thing I did when I woke up and the last thing I did before bed.

If it was down = Great day, I’d be more confident, feel good in myself.
If it was up though = instantly a terrible day, beat myself up, hate my body, question every food choice and feel frustrated. Sound familiar?

Here’s something I didn’t know, though and I wish someone had told me.

👉 Your weight will fluctuate daily! and this has NOTHING to do with fat loss or fat gain.
👉  In fact, if you see a sudden change, like 2–3kg overnight, that’s not body fat and is one of the many other thing impacting our gravity.

It could be....

⚖️ Hormonal changes (your period, ovulation etc.)
⚖️ Water retention
⚖️ Food volume (simply having more food sitting in your stomach)
⚖️ Salt intake
⚖️ More Carbs therefore more water with it.
⚖️ Alcohol
⚖️ Sleep (poor sleep increases stress hormones that affect water balance)

⚖️ Heightened Stress - If you are stressed with life and then also getting more stressed that the scales are not changing, stress might actually be the thing making it not change! Ironic.

When we’re stressed, our adrenal glands release hormones (cortisol and aldosterone) that make the body hold onto more water. This can show up as an increase on the scales but it’s not fat gain, it’s just your body temporarily holding more fluid - once you are less stressed this you won't be holding as much water.

As you can see NONE of these things = body fat.
Yet, we let that little number dictate our mood, our choices, our self-worth.

That’s why I loved this message from one of my clients yesterday:

“YASS! 🎊 Still not seeing it on the scales, but I am in my jeans, so 🤷‍♀️ I don't get it, but I'm not so bothered any more. Definitely feeling stronger and more able, so that's the goal 😊 Thanks for all your support and efforts with my training and new knowledge Amy. Xx”

This is what I want for you too - shift your focus from chasing a number to noticing the progress you might actually be making:

✨ Your jeans fitting differently
✨ Feeling stronger and more capable
✨ More energy with your kids
✨ Confidence in your own skin

Be patient. Progress might well be happening even if the scales don’t show it yet.

👉 Start tracking some non-scale wins.
👉 Notice how your body feels.
👉 Give yourself credit for the daily actions you’re showing up for.

And if you need help building a plan that makes progress feel clear, consistent, and actually achievable — reach out. That’s what I’m here for.

Because the scales don’t get to define your success. You do. 💛

Amy xx
